Hooters Waitress Makes Huge Sacrifice And Saves Customer’s Life

A waitress at a Georgia Hooters did something no one would have expected. No seriously…who does this? She went above and beyond what any reasonable employee would do after talking to a “regular” at the restaurant.

Mariana Villarreal, of Roswell, Georgia, was the new hire at her local Hooters as a waitress, but that didn’t mean she didn’t have the regulars memorized. One of those regulars is Don Thomas…why is he a regular? It must be the chicken, right? Well, while working one night, Villarreal was speaking to Thomas when he told her about his condition that may have ended up taking his life if he wasn’t able to get a specific surgery.

Thomas spoke with reporters:

“Mariana had only been here a short time, I just barely knew her when she made the offer.”

As it turned out, Thomas had lost both of his kidneys. If he did not have a transplant, he would die because being on dialysis indefinitely was not a viable option.

That’s when Villarreal came into the story:

“I said, ‘Well I have two kidneys, do you want one of mine?'”

Mariana says she didn’t know anything about Thomas, other than he was a regular, but that she felt a higher calling to do what she could to help him overcome his condition. Villarreal says that her grandmother had recently suffered and died of kidney failure.

“I wasn’t able to do anything for my grandma. If [Don] can live two more years, happy as he’s ever been, that’s fine with me. That’s not up to me. I did my part, now it’s God’s turn to keep him alive.”

Both Mariana and Don went through with their various operations and Dr. Harrison Pollinger, a program director at the Piedmont Transplant Institute, said that it was a success for both of them and they will both go on to live healthy normal lives with one kidney each.
