A nine year-old boy recently opened up a lemonade stand like many kids his age. The reason he did it was not for a new bike or some other childhood fancy – but something else that will break your heart.

From Metro:

Nine-year-old Tristan Jacobson has recently raised $14,000 after opening a lemonade stand.

His lemonade stand, however, was not opened so that he could earn a bit of pocket money. No, Tristan began selling lemonade to fund his own adoption, according to the Springfield News Leader (SNL).

Left on the doorstep of a Missouri shelter four years ago, Tristan was taken into the care of a woman named Donnie Davis and he has been living with her ever since.

Adamant that he wanted Donnie to adopt him, the only thing that helped them back was the legal fees.

So, the pair came together to open both a yard sale and Tristan’s lemonade stand with a goal to raise $5,000 (£3,500).

But word spread after they started a separate fundraiser on YouCaring called ‘Tristan’s Adoption Fund‘ and they exceeded their goal by raising a total of $14,000 (£9,500).

As they have raised more than enough to cover the adoption and legal fees, the excess will be going towards Tristan’s education.

Donnie told SNL: ‘There’s not enough words to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who has shown support or given us donations.

‘Everyone has made this possible. We will make sure this child will forever be ours.’

UPDATE: Tristan’s YouCaring is up to $16,002 dollars. Donate here if interested!
