Chris Norton was given only a 3% chance of ever walking again after a tragic accident while playing football. But with a lot of hard work and determination, a 3% chance was apparently all he needed.

In October 2010, Chris Norton was playing for Luther College’s school football team when he made a tackle on a kickoff that left him paralyzed from the neck down. According to the SCI CAN Foundation, he was given a 3 percent chance of moving his legs ever again.

He spent the next four-and-a-half years working tirelessly toward one single goal: walking across the stage at his college graduation.

Not only did Chris achieve it, but the feat left the entire auditorium cheering in applause for more than two minutes, KCCI-TV reports.

Also, Chris was able to achieve his dream with the help of his girlfriend, Emily Summers, whom he proposed to that weekend. Based on the reaction captured by KCCI, it appears that she said yes.

The emotionally-charged weekend capped off a busy few years for Chris Norton, who helped found the SCI CAN Foundation to help others with spinal cord injuries have access to the therapy equipment they need.

This seems to be a truly exceptional man with a very bright future in front of him. Only time will tell how much more mobility he will continue to recover, but it seems obvious that this is a person who is destined to do great things.
