A Reality Check For Liberals: Obama’s Failing Because Of His Liberalism

I’m pretty close to giving up on Mr. Obama, who seems determined to confirm every doubt I and others ever had about whether he was ready to fight for what his supporters believed in. — Paul Krugman

..The problem was that immediately after the election, like one nano-second after, Obama and his centrist, defensive team Democrats began “undermining themselves with faux-bipartisanship and tepid policies. — DownWithTyranny

Millions of Obama voters — me included — naively believed that he was going to stand up to corporate special interests in behalf of working people. He didn’t. People do not like wimps who compromise their principles to stay in power. — Joseph A. Palermo, The Huffington Post

Instead, Barack Obama reached across the aisle and let the Republicans stymie the Democratic agenda on the altar of Let’s Make A Deal, which they had no intention of doing. For one full year Pres. Obama has laid back, waited, and let things spin completely out of control until even Ted Kennedy’s old seat has been squandered on the altar of bipartisanship. — Taylor Marsh

When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. The liberal “hammer” is “push liberal doctrine, demonize Republicans, and fight harder” — and that’s how they respond to every setback, even when the setback was caused by that approach.

That’s very relevant in the case of Barack Obama. Yes, liberals may have understood that he was one of them, but that’s not how he campaigned. Barack Obama presented himself to America as a bipartisan centrist. Yet, when he got into office, he immediately veered way off to the left. Seeing as how Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton’s presidencies followed exactly the same trajectory, this is not a coincidence. Liberals who run for President have to lie about what they believe because they know it’s not popular. Then, after they snooker the public into putting them in office, they move to the left and inevitably, the public responds negatively. It happened with Carter, it happened with Clinton, and it’s happening with Obama.

Liberals do have a point when they complain that Obama is not a courageous man — but, again, that’s a function of his liberalism. If Obama were honest about his liberal beliefs, the public would reject him. So instead, he moves relentlessly towards liberal goals while trying to present the image of a disinterested man who just wants to get things done. This is not a surprise. What do you think all those “present” votes were about in the Illinois State Senate?

As to bipartisanship, there has been none of consequence. Remember when Obama said:

But I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don’t mind cleaning up after them, but don’t do a lot of talking.

Well, that has been very representative of his idea of “bipartisanship.” He attempts to pass the most liberal bill he can get away with and tries to get a moderate Republican or two to go along with it in return for some inconsequential tinkering around the edges. Sometimes, as we saw with the stimulus bill, it has worked, and sometimes, as we’ve seen with the health care bill, it has failed. But, at no point in his first year did Barack Obama ever make any effort to give Republicans any sort of genuine input into his policies.

Moreover, you’d have to go all the way back to Lyndon Johnson to find a President with a more liberal agenda. Obama is taking over the banking industry, handing the car companies over to the unions, trying to socialize our health care system, trying to put an end to secret ballots for unions, attempting to implement a cap and trade system, and spending money we don’t have at the fastest clip since WW2. You’ll notice that these are large changes, they’re all extremely popular policies with liberals, and they’re all extremely unpopular policies with the rest of America.

Although Barack Obama’s lying has hurt him and the fact that his speeches have gotten tired hasn’t helped, the truth is that Americans are rejecting the unpopular liberal agenda he’s trying to force on an unwilling country. Liberals who refuse to accept that reality are living in denial.
