Soldier Surprises Family at Carolina Panthers Game

Being separated from a loved one is difficult, to say the least, especially when that person is in harm’s way and you know they might not come home. Military homecomings are emotional, because not only are you reunited with that person, but you finally know that they are safe — and one soldier was able to reunite with his family with the help of the Carolina Panthers.

Spec. Eric Roth was stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan, but when it came time to come home, he decided to surprise his family.

His wife Danielle, along with his son Rowan, his parents, brother, and sister-in-law attended a Carolina Panthers game during a Salute to Service Spectacle. Hundreds of service members were on the field for the pre-game activities, and five wounded warriors from Fort Bragg were recognized in the Panthers’ Rows of Honor.

Roth’s family was taken onto the field alongside a camo-clad Sir Purr, the Panthers mascot, to view a message they thought was recorded in Afghanistan. But after the message ended, Roth appeared — and his wife couldn’t wait to see him.

Surprise military homecomings have become popular for a reason. You can’t help but get swept up into the joy and emotion these families are experiencing.
