Husband Finds Wife Cheating, and Bites the EAR Off of Her Lover

A jilted husband walked in to his home and found his wife with a former lover she claimed to have broken off her affair with, and decided to take the man on. A fight ensued, and a pretty gross bite took away part of the other man’s ear:

Appearing in a Toledo court Monday, Virgil Bates III admitted that he attacked his romantic rival, Matthew Tipton, and bit off part of the man’s ear in the melee.

Bates pleaded guilty to a single count of aggravated assault, downgraded from a felonious assault charge that he had been indicted on last month.

The 40-year-old Bates told Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Ruth Ann Franks that he went home on June 24 to find out if his wife, Heather, was lying about breaking off an affair.

Upon entering his house, Bates found his florist wife and her old lover, a 44-year-old welder from Toledo, in an amorous embrace, and soon a fight ensued between the two romantic rivals.

‘He proceeded to clamp down and bite my forearm. I proceeded to panic, and I wound up biting his ear, and a piece of his ear came off,’ Bates recounted in court, according to the Toledo Blade.

An assistant prosecutor said the top part of Mr Tipton’s ear couldn’t be medically repaired and his medical treatment was ‘extremely painful.’

When asked by the judge why he did not walk away after seeing his wife cavorting with her boyfriend, Bates replied: ‘To me, he was in my bed.’

Bates agreed that he could have left at any point and staved off violence, but he chose to stay and engage Tipton in a confrontation.

Bates faces up to 18 months in prison, and is held in the Lucas County Jail on $25,000 bond.
