Trump Says He Can Deport Illegal Immigrants From US In 2 Years Or Less

Leave it to 2016 presidential-hopeful Donald Trump to be at the forefront of discussing when and how he would deport over 30 million illegal immigrants currently living in the United States.

Unlike any of the other GOP presidential candidates, many of whom believe in a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, Trump said he can get the job done on illegal immigration in just his first term if he were president.

Participating on a dial-in call Thursday night with GOP voters, hosted by the Alabama Republican Party, Trump was asked about a timeline for removing undocumented immigrants in the United States illegally, and said the daunting task could be completed in two years or less, according to The Wall Street Journal.

“I think it’s a process that can take 18 months to two years if properly handled,” he said.

Trump acknowledged that while many estimate there are roughly 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S., the number could be much higher.

“It’s been 11 million for years, but they don’t know what it is, it could be much more than that,” the real-estate tycoon added.

Trump spelled out that the more appealing of those removed could get in line to come back legally.

“We’re a nation of laws, and the word ‘illegal,’ as in illegal immigration, means they’re not here legally,” he told participants on the call. “We have to get them out. If we have wonderful cases, they can come back in, but they have to come back in legally.”

Once the deportations are complete, Trump said, he’d build a wall running along the border with Mexico.

Trump, with the help of Ann Coulter, was the first GOP presidential candidate to crack down on illegal immigration and discuss what exactly he would do.

Naturally, the other GOP candidates have had to piggy-back on Trump’s immigration rhetoric. And the media has been going wild, asking Trump constantly specifically how he would handle immigration, while not asking any of the other candidates the same question.

What do you think? Can Trump deport illegal immigrants in less than 2 years?
