Putin Tries to Play Kingmaker in American Politics
No one needs to tell me that Hillary is awful; she is corrupt to the core, incompetent, and eager to impose an ideology fundamentally opposed to the principles that made America great, as I have been documenting for years. But Shrillary aside, what engaged adult would truly want Donald Trump to be President of the United States? I can think of only one: Trump’s idol, Vladimir Putin.
One of the Soviet Union’s most effective strategies was disinformation. For details, read Disinformation by Ion Mihai Pacepa, the highest ranking Soviet bloc intelligence official to defect to the West. The book makes it clear that disinformation was a major priority for the KGB. Russia is now ruled by a former KGB lieutenant colonel. It is hardly surprising that it continues to use disinformation against its archrival, the USA.
Currently, the immediate objective of Russian disinformation is to elect the malleable, clueless, pro-Russian fool Donald Trump:
Russia’s troll factories were, at one point, likely being paid by the Kremlin to spread pro-Trump propaganda on social media.
That is what freelance journalist Adrian Chen, now a staff writer at The New Yorker, discovered as he was researching Russia’s “army of well-paid trolls” for an explosive New York Times Magazine exposĂ© published in June 2015.
“A very interesting thing happened,” Chen told Longform‘s Max Linsky in a podcast in December.
“I created this list of Russian trolls when I was researching. And I check on it once in a while, still. And a lot of them have turned into conservative accounts, like fake conservatives. I don’t know what’s going on, but they’re all tweeting about Donald Trump and stuff,” he said.
So that’s where all the Trump trolls come from.
Why not? Due to Trump’s influence, the GOP platform has already pulled the rug out from under the Ukraine. Trump has indicated that NATO treaty or not, he might not defend the Baltic states from Russian invasion. His campaign manager Paul Manafort is in very deep with the Russians; he used to work for Viktor Yanukovych, a Russian puppet who apparently aspired to be the Ukrainian Vidkun Quisling.
As Putin moves to reconstitute the Soviet Empire, there is no one he would rather have in the White House than his fanboy Trump. This is why Russia hacked into the Democratic National Committee, causing acrimony among Democrats with the release of embarrassing emails in a textbook example of information warfare.
The Cold War is not over.
Putin could play Trump like a balalaika.
