Just, wow… Can you imagine driving along and have an airplane like this drop belly first towards you, then careen into the river next to you? You wouldn’t even have time to freak out. Those poor people. 23 are now confirmed dead of the 58 passengers on board. 15 had injuries and were rescued by rubber boats and rescuers. They still don’t know the cause of the crash which occurred shortly after take off. They lost communication after the plane lifted off. The plane clipped a taxi and a bridge as it went down. The driver and passenger were injured, but survived.

From UPROXX Web Culture:

Footage from the TransAsia Airways crash that has now taken the life of eight passengers has surfaced, showing the plane sharply banking over a highway, clipping a taxi, and landing in the nearby river. From BBC News:

Fifty-eight people were onboard the domestic flight, and a number of people were reportedly injured.

Taiwan’s Central News Agency (CNA) broadcast footage of the plane almost submerged in the Keelung river.

Rescue teams are alongside the plane trying to rescue about 30 people still trapped inside.

The ATR-72 had just taken off from Taipei Songshan Airport and was headed to the outlying Kinmen islands, just off the coast of south-east China, CNA said.

Another camera caught the crash from a farther away, but clearly showed the same harrowing result. Reports aren’t sure what happened to cause the plane to crash, but controllers had lost contact with the aircraft shortly after takeoff.

Rescuers later used a crane to hoist the plane out of the river. The pilot did yell “Mayday!” three times before he lost communication with the tower. Over 300 rescuers tried to save the passengers. The cause of the crash is still unknown and it will take a bit to determine what went wrong. This was a new, modern aircraft and weather conditions were good. It’s just a horrific occurrence and many more could have died.
