BREAKING: Donald Trump Makes First Major Announcement About Presidency [VIDEO]

Donald Trump will be good to his word and not take a presidential salary while he serves in the White House. By law, he will take $1 and the rest will probably go to charity. This was clarified on his 60 Minutes interview last night with Lesley Stahl. He will be the first president in over 100 years to do this and only the third to ever forego the salary. He joins Herbert Hoover and John F. Kennedy in the gesture.

The current presidential salary is $400,000 a year. It remains to be seen what charity President Trump will specify, but the move is a historic one. From the very beginning, Trump has vowed to set aside his business responsibilities if elected and in his 60 Minutes interview on Sunday, his children said they would be taking over those duties. At one point during the interview, Eric said, “… we’ll be in New York and we’ll take care of the business. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun doing it. And we’re going to make him very proud.” Trump added on, “This is big league stuff. This is – this is our country. Our country is going bad. We’re going to save our country. I don’t care about hotel occupancy. It’s peanuts compared to what we’re doing. Health care, making people better. It’s unfair what’s happened to the people of our country and we’re going to change it. As simple as that.”

From TheBlaze:

President-elect Donald Trump says he will only accept $1 for his salary as president.

Trump made the comments during a sit-down interview with CBS “60 Minutes,” which aired in full Sunday evening. During the interview, the president-elect even admitted that he doesn’t even know what the president’s salary is.

“I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is ‘no,’” Trump said when asked by host Lesley Stahl whether or not he’ll accept the presidential salary.

“I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year,” he added. “But it’s a — I don’t even know what it is. Do you know what the salary is?”

Stahl informed Trump that the current presidential salary is set at an annual rate of $400,000.

“No, I’m not going to take the salary. I’m not taking it,” Trump reiterated.

Trump first revealed that he would not be taking the presidential salary if elected at an event in Rochester, New Hampshire, on September 17th, 2015. “The first thing I’m going to do is tell you that if I’m elected president, I’m accepting no salary, okay? That’s not a big deal for me.” He repeated the promise one month later. Last night, he solidified it on 60 Minutes.

Trump as a billionaire follows in the footsteps of John F. Kennedy, who was the wealthiest man ever sworn into the presidency. He gave his presidential salary to charity once he got into the White House (he did the same with his congressional salary). Herbert Hoover, who served as the 31st President of the United States from 1929 to 1933, had an estimated net worth of about $4 million in 1913. His money came from mining. After stepping into office, Hoover split his salary between a number of charities and put the rest towards his staff’s salary. According to Forbes, Trump is worth approximately $3.7 billion.
